N.O. Chella {Fest-inspired wedding vibes}

2019 is a milestone year for legacy music festivals with the 50-year

celebration of both Jazz Fest and Woodstock. The summer of ‘69 marked

the birth of festival culture that has since unified generations of music-

goers through its bohemian spirit and whimsical nature—a tradition that

continues today at modern festivals like Coachella and New Orleans’ own

Voodoo Fest, Essence Fest and Buku Music & Arts Project.

Gypsy Jeaux Espresseaux, housed in a repurposed 1960 International Metro Van, makes for an on-theme photo opp outside the front facade while also providing party goers with the caffeinated pick-me-up they’ll need to stay on the dance floor all night!

Wedding in a Music Venue

For many couples, festivals and concerts have played a significant role in their relationships, making epic entertainment an important item when it come to planning their big day. If you’re the couple that always opts for the 3-day pass, never misses the chance to be front row for a show, or travels the country following your favorite acts, having your wedding in a music venue might be the perfect choice to celebrate your love of musicand each other.

One such music venue, Republic NOLA, is steadily gaining notoriety for more than epic shows & festival after-parties that have spanned their diverse 13+ year history (legends like Mumford & Sons, The Chainsmokers, G-Eazy, George Clinton & The Parliament Funkadelic, Lil Wayne, & Diplo have headlined their stage, just to name a few). Since a change in ownership and major renovation in the fall of 2015, the venue has focused on hosting more weddings and private events than ever before, while also launching an expansive menu of in-house design and coordination services to streamline the planning process. They were recently honored at the 2019 Crescent City Excellence Awards for “Best Wedding Event” and “Best Event Design” and continue to push the envelope to bring every couple’s vision to life in bigger and better ways than they could ever imagine.

All About The Vibe

The expansive 7500 sq.ft. warehouse that houses Republic NOLA boasts plenty of built-in features when it comes to the bars, stage, & furnishings that establish the unique vibe of the venue. The use of real candles is not only permitted, but encouraged to augment the ambiance along with filament-bulb string lights. The impressive lighting and sound throughout the space effortlessly evokes a high-energy atmosphere. The venue primarily works with Pigéon Catering on creative culinary menus, while bar services are handled by Republic’s talented team and typically include a clever specialty drink for each member of the happy couple that reflects their personality & taste.

Take a turn for the glamorous with this ethereal gown and matching cape from MaeMe The Bridal Boutique. A vintage fringe evening bag, feather and rhinestone moon earrings and quartz crescent crown from Sorella’s add the finishing touches to this dramatic look.

From Amber Leblanc Studios, this simply elegant invitation suite adds “something blue” to the wedding day.

The exposed wood beams & brick of the historic raw space is stunning as-is, so Special Event Director, Jessica Talazac, encourages couples to focus on a few key areas when it comes to décor:

Entrance Table>>

As the first impression, the entrance should be a wow-factor; in this case, a vintage Henry Miller upright piano serves as the guest-book table and sets the tone for the music theme.

After party approved, this La Maison Talulah ‘Secret Pursuit Mini’ dress features butterfly sleeves and trim detailing. Stash wedding day essentials in this Mary Frances ‘Keyed Up’ handbag featuring black onyx and glass beadwork. Get this look at Sorrella’s.

Cake Area>>

To highlight the 26 hanging chandeliers, Republic has a suspended cake table as one of their many in-house enhancement offerings. Their hedge wall backdrop makes the gold & ivory ombré cake by Bittersweet Confections stand out against the bright, bold pops of color of the uplighting, floral topper and iridescent linen.

Looking for something that’s anything but ordinary? Head-to-toe beaded Thicket lace is topped with Carlo Floral Lace cutouts on this blush and ivory fit-and-flare bridal gown with plunging front from Pearl’s Place.

Head Table>>

A head table is a great way to focus your décor budget, and the farm tables and antique x-back chairs from Yur Event Rentals blend seamlessly with the wood accents of Republic NOLA while providing a neutral slate for colorful centerpieces, like the boho-inspired arrangements by Herbivore Floral Design.

From Linen Jolie Bridal, this stunning gown features ivory petal embroidered tulle over sparkle net and Chantilly lace. Need yet another reason to love this gown? Try the detachable shimmer tulle skirt with cascading petal appliqués. Catch us! We’re swooning!

Photo Opp>>

Last but not least—whether you opt for a photo booth or not, no event is complete these days without an Instagram- worthy photo moment for your guests. A textile backdrop, like the dreamy peach mod-print pictured, paired with a simple prop like Republic’s vintage jukebox, can make for fun photos with a personal touch.

From MaeMe The Bridal Boutique, this shimmering A-line ball gown features a deep plunge and a dramatic train. This look is topped off with the “Olive & Pique” Panama wool felt hat in rust and metallic scarf from Sorella’s.

The Fun Factor

Inspired by boho festival vibes from 1969-today, Republic’s Director of Special Events, Jessica Talazac, designed this shoot to highlight the duality of the historic space. “Everything about Republic is based in a balanced dichotomy of juxtaposing ideas; vintage character with modern amenities, industrial style with opulent accents, and a concert venue that can be completely transformed to an elegant wedding venue in ways most people would never imagine,” says Talazac. “Above all else, we believe in customization for our clients, but a close second is making sure that FUN is had by all!” The venue achieves the fun factor with a sound system that will knock your socks off, built-in LED wall for custom visuals, tons of moving lights, and curated vendor stations.

To enhance this ‘festive’ theme, Elektra Cosmetic’s Glitter Buffet allows guests to add a little sparkle with their locally-made body glitter products.

Rachel adds some extra sparkle to her makeup and hands (hello, glitter “henna” anyone?) at Elektra Cosmetics’ Glitter Buffet. She’s wearing a flocked, dotted netting and tulle gown from Pearl’s Place with rainbow glitter earrings from Sorella’s.

A Popcorn Bar by Pigéon Catering + Events makes for a tasty treat during or after the wedding

with custom take-home bags, and the chalkboard by Jess-A-Sketch Signs

encouraging guests to “Keep Love Poppin’!” adds a playful touch.
