Fall Inspiration – Paper Suites

There is just something about Fall that makes it a favorite time of year for so many. Maybe it is the crisp chill in the air or the way the leaves turn such vibrant colors before blanketing the ground (you’ve seen those pictures on the internet, right?) Whatever the reason, Fall is one of the most popular seasons for weddings, even down South. So, throw some fake foliage around your yard, crank your A/C down to a crisp 57 degrees, and break out those boots! Let’s get into the Fall spirit New Orleans!
There are several ways to incorporate the Fall season into your special day… today we’d like to focus on wedding paper suites. This includes invitations, save the dates, place cards and any other paper items that you might use for your wedding, both before, during and after.
One thing that our paper experts are noticing, is that more and more couples are opting to make their paper details as memorable as the wedding day itself. It makes sense, seeing as your Save the Date or formal invitation is the first impression your guests will have of your upcoming nuptials and your thank you cards are the final reminder of what a great time they had celebrating with you! So, let’s take a look at some of this year’s most inspiring Fall designs and trends in the paper suite world:
Rustic
One of the hottest wedding trends expected to continue through 2019 is the idea of bringing nature in, which, for Fall weddings, means barn wood, bare branches, fall foliage and, yes, pumpkins.
Dark Colors
Many Fall wedding couples are passing on the traditional white/ecru invitation and opting for a much bolder choice instead. According to Kelley, from Momental Designs, there is a new trend that has been emerging over the past few years… one that incorporates autumn in a more sophisticated and elegant way. To achieve this classy “Fall” vibe, she says that couples are going with “rich, autumnal colors accented with metallic touches,” adding that “foil stamping remains a favorite.”
Terri Logan, from NOLA Lou Lou agrees with this sentiment, saying that “metallics are a huge trend right now.” She is noticing that brides are currently loving “print foils, but are not opposed to printed designs that resemble foil (printed foil tends to be higher budget invitations and for those brides wanting to stay in budget they are open to the printed designs that resemble foil.)”
Kelley also added that “there has been an everlasting presence of burgundy that we have seen for Fall weddings, which can be paired up beautifully with wedding color palette mainstays of blush and gold.”
And Terri suggested that being bold doesn’t necessarily mean busy. “Modern simple designs are also big right now. Less is more… bold scripted fonts, but as simple as possible, scream elegant.”
Watercolor
Watercolor designs are taking over the invitation industry right now and this more artistic touch is probably one of my favorite new trends. The soft edges of watercolor images give invitations and stationary a very romantic feel. And, when paired with those dark hues we discussed a moment ago, the combination is downright stunning!
Landscapes, Florals and Nature
For those that are looking for a more “traditional wedding invitation,” while also wanting “to showcase the splendor of fall,” Kelley suggests turning to landscapes and florals. For an extra special touch, enlist a local artist/designer to paint a scene that is very special to the two of you.
Envelope Liners
For those couples wanting to dip their toes into this year’s trends but aren’t quite ready to jump in with both feet, using decorated envelope liners is definitely the way to go! Stationary designers are really loving this one as well! Using decorated liners allows designers and couples alike to add a touch of boldness without taking away from an elegantly simple invitation. It is also the first thing your recipients see when they open your mail so why not give their eyes something beautiful to really catch their attention?!
A Little Something Extra
Finally, make your invited guests feel extra special by sending your invitation as a gift. Dried flowers or other personal touches are sure to make a lasting impression.
Online and DIY
As more and more couples seek to keep their wedding budget down, the use of online and printable invitations and décor is growing. There are many options out there that you can customize. You can then send them out digitally or have them printed and mailed.
