The Wedding People | Meet Sean Eagan: From EMT to Event Planner

What does a 27-year career as an EMT have in common with planning weddings? For Sean Eagan, it’s all about staying calm under pressure and taking care of people. Meet the owner of Sean Eagan Events, serving couples and families throughout Southeast Louisiana, in our latest installment of The Wedding People.

Some careers begin with a carefully mapped-out business plan. Others begin with a really good birthday party.

For Sean Eagan, owner of Sean Eagan Events, LLC, the inspiration came in 2024, when he organized his mother’s 90th birthday celebration.

From arranging the venue and entertainment to coordinating drinks and the details of the day, Sean took on the planning himself. The celebration made such an impression that guests were still complimenting him a year later.

He took that as a sign that event planning might be his next chapter.

Today, Sean Eagan Events provides wedding and special event planning services throughout Southeast Louisiana, including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. And while his path into the wedding industry might be a little unconventional, his previous career gave him some skills he believes translate surprisingly well to planning celebrations.

From Emergency Response to Event Planning

Before stepping into the world of weddings and special events, Sean spent 27 years working as an emergency medical technician (EMT).

It’s a background that might not immediately bring wedding planning to mind, but Sean sees a connection.

Years of responding to emergencies taught him to stay focused in stressful situations, think ahead, and recognize potential problems before they escalate.

Now, he brings that same approach to coordinating celebrations.

Sean says his goal is to handle the details and unexpected challenges so his clients can focus on enjoying their special occasion.

And his involvement doesn’t necessarily end when the celebration does. He emphasizes being present before, during, and after an event, including making sure everything is put away and guests depart safely.

The Moment That Makes It Worthwhile

Ask Sean what he loves most about planning weddings and milestone celebrations, and his answer isn’t about the decorations, the menu, or even seeing everything come together on schedule.

It’s the reaction.

“The look on the clients faces when they walk into the room,” he shares. “The smiles, and the sparkle in their eyes just says everything I need to know at the moment.”

For Sean, those first few seconds of seeing someone experience a celebration they’ve been anticipating are what make the work rewarding.

Whether he’s helping coordinate a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or another special occasion, it’s the people at the heart of the event that matter most to him.

Wedding Trends That Make Memories

One thing Sean is particularly enjoying in weddings right now is the creative use of technology to make celebrations more interactive and memorable.

He’s especially interested in audio guest books, which allow friends and family to record personal messages that couples can listen to long after the wedding day.

He also enjoys interactive features that allow guests to leave written messages that can be incorporated into a keepsake video.

For Sean, these additions bring an extra element of fun to a celebration while giving couples something meaningful to revisit in the years ahead.

Sean’s Advice for Couples Planning a Wedding

When it comes to wedding planning, Sean’s advice is straightforward: stay organized and pay attention to your budget.

For couples taking the DIY route, he recommends keeping detailed notes, saving receipts, and tracking expenses along the way. Without a clear picture of where the money is going, it’s easy for costs to add up.

And for couples who would rather leave the logistics to someone else? That’s where a wedding planner can help.

Having someone manage the moving pieces can give couples more time to focus on the parts of the celebration they’re most excited about.

Beyond the Wedding Day

When Sean isn’t coordinating events, you’ll likely find him shooting pool with friends, singing karaoke, cooking, or settling in for a good movie.

And if he’s nowhere to be found?

There’s a good chance he’s out on his motorcycle chasing a sunset.

After a career spent responding to emergencies and a new chapter helping people celebrate life’s milestones, a little time on the open road sounds like a fitting way to unwind.
