jasmine + phillip’s story

Jasmine and Phillip met as many modern couples do: online. “We were supposed to be just friends but it did not stay that way,” shares Jasmine. “At an Indian festival we sat down to eat with a stranger and he asked when we were getting married because I had just gotten henna done on my hands,” shares Jasmine. “It was awkward, but that’s when I realized that my feelings for Phillip went beyond friendship.

A few months went by and Jasmine and Phillip began discussing the future, in particular buying a home. ”I told him I’m not buying a house with him unless we’re married,” says Jasmine. Phillip responded, ”’You think I won’t marry you?’” And just like that they were engaged.

Jasmine and Phillip planned a New Orleans wedding with the help of event planner Kristen Rauch of PK Events.

The ceremony took place beneath the sprawling branches of the Tree of Life in Audubon Park. A candlelit reception followed in the Dryades Ballroom of the NOPSI Hotel.

The two included many nods to their respective cultures on the wedding day. Moments included jumping the broom during the ceremony and Lion Dancers performing during the reception in honor of Phillip’s Chinese heritage. Of course, they couldn’t let the day end without a traditional New Orleans Second Line to which they added Moko Jumbie stilt walkers,a tradition from Jasmine’s mother’s home in the U.S. Virgin Islands!

“My favorite part was definitely the reception,” says Jasmine. “The food was excellent and the DJ and performers were so great.”
