REAL WEDDING:: Allison Remson + Trevor Brooks Young

Trevor Young had it all planned out.
First, dinner with his beloved, Allison Remson, and her parents at a favorite restaurant in downtown Baton Rouge. Then a walk to the Mississippi River levee where, as fireworks burst in the air above, Trevor would ask the big question.
Most of that didn’t happen.
“I ruined my husband’s perfect proposal,” Allison admits. “After a long day at work, I asked for a rain check … Clearly, I had no idea what I was missing out on.”
But Trevor persisted. As they headed to bed after a quiet night at home, Trevor asked if they had any Rosé or Champagne. Even though Allison knew they did not, Trevor rolled out of bed, left the room, then quickly returned and, in the dark, walked to Allison’s side of the bed.
“I leaned over to turn on my bedside lamp and there he was, down on knee, in the bedroom of our first house,” Allison says. “It may not have been what he had planned, but to me, it was perfect.”
They’d met at the House of Blues in New Orleans in 2011. Allison, in college in Lafayette, was there to see the reggae band SOJA. Trevor was one of the band’s guitar technicians.
“I assumed he worked for the House for Blues, not the band,” Allison says. “I thought to myself, ‘This guy is just far enough away to not have to make a commitment to a relationship.’”
But “this guy” wanted a relationship and the pair began dating. When it was time to plan their wedding, they chose Houmas House as the setting.
On March 23, 2019 guests watched as the couple stood together under a canopy of live oaks and prepared for happily ever after. A close friend who had been there on the night they’d first met served as officiant. No one else stood nearby, Allison says, “which allowed us to completely focus on one another and the vows we were making for the rest of our lives.”
“The ceremony itself was my favorite part of the day,” Allison says. “It was right at sunset and the light was flooding through the trees, putting a spotlight on our love.”
A traditional reception at the Houmas House Pavilion followed. And then another party followed that. All of the Houmas House cabins had been rented out by the couple’s family and friends, so Allison and Trevor hired a DJ and set up a bar in the cabins’ central courtyard.
“The wedding party didn’t officially end until five in the morning,” Allison says.
