REAL WEDDING:: ABBIE LUTENBACHER + KEVIN MONJURE

THE PROPOSAL IN ABBIE’S WORDS:

“Kev and I returned to the same Panama City Beach where we met. I had no idea because I had planned the whole thing, desperate for any break after starting my new job. He was begging to go for a walk on the beach when all I wanted to do was get dressed and go to dinner. I was the definition of ‘hangry’ and gave him a hard time all the way down to the beach, [and] I finally have enough and say, “Can we please go back so I can eat?!?” When he turns around and gets down on one knee. I have no idea what he said because I was screaming the entire time!”

Abbie wore her grandmother’s heart pendant necklace on her wedding day and her mother’s veil, but with a unique twist. “I took part of my mom's veil my grandmother had made and sewed it into the bottom of my dress,” shares Abbie, “and my aunt made part of it into a headpiece I could wear at the reception.”

Abbie loved having her best friends, who live far away, stay with her the night before the wedding. “It was like we were still back in our dorm in college,” she says.

Abbie and Kevin said their vows at St. Anthony of Padua, a church that held a special place in Abbie’s heart. “When my grandmother lived in Mid-City she always used to walk to St Anthony’s for church,” shares Abbie. “When I was growing up, she would always talk about how beautiful it was and how much she missed going there. When she was near the end of her life, she asked that if I was going to get married in New Orleans, it be at St Anthony of Padua.”

“So we have two miniature dachshunds, Lulu and Mimi,” says Abbie. “They are our whole world and we wanted to include them in every point possible. Anyone who has dachshunds know they typically bond with one person. So Lulu signified the bride’s drink and Mimi signified the groom’s drink. For the drinks themselves, Kevin and I are big tropical beach lovers. My go to is always the Mojito so we named it Lulu’s Mojito. And for the groom, he isn’t a big beer drinker but he does love his sweet drinks, especially margaritas, and so we named that one Mimi’s Margarita.”

For their reception, Kevin and Abbie wanted a location that was very New Orleans. “We looked at plenty of venues but the Federal Ballroom had an extra old New Orleans flair that, while other venues also have, we felt the ballroom was organically New Orleans,” shares Abbie.
